From the beginning of June to its end, life has been preoccupied with my travels to Germany and Austria to reveal the origins of my existence. I approached this trip with casual indifference. But ended, with mouth gaping awe! I could not take my eyes off the architecture styles and colors before me. The plazas and various gathering places drew me in…to stop and enjoy. The mountain grandeur and the quaint little villages were most impressive. Daily, I was dazzled by the ancient dates on buildings and historic sites. Something you don’t see in the U.S. Germany takes great pride in showing off the Black Forest Region (Schwarzwald), their love of soccer, the scenic beauty of the Alps, countryside trails for day hikes, their historic culture and landmarks. I could relate to what foreign tourists feel like when visiting our American National Parks and historic monuments. To get outside of our borders and see life in another part of the world has indeed peaked my interest in going other places like the British Isles and getting my husband to Poland. Time will tell if more travel is in our future.
Now that I am back, I am engulfed in gardening and catching up on fresh air things to do in both WI and MI. The summer is flying by! There is so much to do and enjoy and take part in: family weddings, visiting friends and relatives, and stopping to appreciate special moments and places.
So pardon me if I do not communicate…while trying to enjoy all that summer has to offer.
